Lots of stuff to talk about. But first, Skrull Watch.
Spoilers ahead for Secret Invasion #2, so if you haven't read it yet, stop reading this.
First- WHO's a skrull?
We know this much for sure:
Hank Pym: He's a Skrull. At the end of SI issue 1, he blasts Reed Richards in the head. Duh. Makes good sense, he's Tony's right-hand man, and is in charge of the 50 state initiative.
Jarvis: He's a Skrull. He loaded Tony's armor with the virus that took out EVERYTHING at the end of SI issue 1.
Dum Dum Dugan: He's a Skrull. 2nd highest ranking agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. other than AWOL Nick Fury. Blew up S.W.O.R.D.'s spacestation, as they were monitoring the Skrull Armada in SI issue 1.
Spider-Woman: She's a Skrull. Revealed in New Avengers that not only is she a Skrull, she is THE SKRULL QUEEN. Going back to Jarvis, they had no interaction in SI issue 1, but were in the same room together. They knew the score.
Invisible Woman: Could be a Skrull. A Skrull turns into her and opens a portal to the Negative Zone inside the Baxter Building. But, at the same time, an Invisible Woman is seen inside the ship that is carrying the 70's versions of our Marvel Heroes.
Spider-Man: Definitely not a Skrull. The imposter Spidey was killed in SI issue 2. No way they'd fuck Spidey's life up like this and then just say it was a Skrull, anyway.
Hawkeye/Ronin: Probably not a Skrull. Hawkeye was killed in SI issue 2 and revealed to be Skrull. Current Ronin/Hawkeye COULD still possibly be a Skrull, but why would they disguise themselves as TWO Hawkeyes? The Scarlet Witch clearly revived Hawkeye as a result of her actions during House of M. I'm pretty sure with the reveal that "70's" Hawkeye was a Skrull, that Ronin/Hawkeye will stay normal. And besides, Ronin/Hawkeye was the big hero of issue 2, eh?
Mockingbird: Could be a Skrull. Was sad to find out that HER Hawkeye was a Skrull. Could be another thorn in Ronin/Hawkeye's side to find out his wife didn't die, and then turns out she was a Skrull. Does Bendis want to screw with Clint Barton's life that much? Probably.
Captain America: Definitely not a Skrull. The Heroes will believe in him, though.
Luke Cage: Definitely not a Skrull. Too much character development.
The Vision: Could be a Skrull. If not, he's just a dick for freaking The Sentry out like that.
Captain Marvel: He's a Skrull. But he's fighting on the good side. Wonder if that will matter to our heroes?
Ares: Probably a Skrull. Very questionable character. And his actions at the beginning of SI issue 2 are very Skrully.
Elektra: She's a Skrull. She died fighting Echo in Japan. Started this whole thing. Revealed to be the first Skrull operating in this whole invasion.
Black Bolt: He's a Skrull. Revealed when Iron Man presented the Skrull Elektra body to the rest of the Illuminati. Killed by Namor. Ouch!
Reed Richards: Definitely not a Skrull. But in my opinion, their number one target.
Maria Hill: Could be a Skrull. In that position, is in great place to do a lot of damage. Very close to Tony Stark...
Iron Man: Definitely not a Skrull. Remember Civil War? They can't go back on that.
Well, those are my initial thoughts here on "Skrull Watch". More Skrull Watch news as it happens, and after every issue of Secret Invasion.
What are your thoughts?

I think you're calling Spider-Woman too soon. That NA last page could totally be a fake out, or shit there might be more than one. I don't know, I just don't see Bendis making one of his pet characters a Skrull, especially when she's supposed to get her own monthly.
I'm also calling that Invisible Woman isn't a Skrull and that that was just one Skrull turning into her to fuck up the FF.
The Cap on that ship is a Skrull FOR SURE. Bendis bringing back Cap alive would fuck with Brubaker's shit, and Bendis isn't gonna do that.
Vision is definitely a Skrull and the Young Avengers Vision is legit.
Don't think Maria is a Skrull, though I definitely thought she was gonna be. I think if she was a Skrull they wouldn't have needed Dugan, and they wouldn't have had her on the crashing helicarrier.
And I agree about Iron Man, plus no way he's a skrull when his movie just came out.
MY SKRULL GUESSES:
The fucking President of the United States. Yeah, thats right. Niggas a skrull, i'm calling it.
Norman Osbourne. Calling it. Basically because Ellis is leaving the Thunderbolts so its a good time to shake shit up over there, and I think it'd be a good reveal. I think he's who Captain Marvel was going for.
I'm thinking maybe Wonder Man, too. He ain't done shit in MA and no one cares about him.
If there's a Skrull in the Fantastic Four, I think its Johnny or Ben. Ben because he's had a shitload of times where he's been away from everyone else, hell he might still be in fucking France chillin. Johnny because I don't know it just seems reasonable somehow.
And Luke/Jessica's baby is a Skrull fo sho. Skrull baby. Calling it. May 8, 2008 3:07 AM LB! said...
Oh, and Ares isn't a Skrull either. He can tell this Savage Land bullshit is just distracting everyone while the Skrulls go fuck with the cities. And he's too awesome to be a Skrull. May 8, 2008 3:09 AM Mr. Glaze, Doctor of Journalism, Esq. said...
Hmmm. Good point, Double J.
All of the Spider-Woman skrull teases could be a red herring.
Seriously though, we need a BIG skrull reveal.
Cap, Spidey, Iron Man, Wolvie...these are the big guns.
A big gun will be a Skrull, or this series will bomb.
I agree with Norman Osborne. You watch, the thunderbolts will be Skrulls...that's why Cap Marvel is there.
You think the REAL villains would go along with the initiative?
And Baby Cage and Jessica Jones are SO skrulls to fuck with Luke Cage.
It also brings back "Jewel" and makes the Michael Gaydos-drawn Jessica Jones not so ugly anymore.
Seriously...you ever read Alias? Man, she's ugly.
Nice reference to The Thing chilling in France.
He could totally be over there still, and not know what is up. France is so backwoods.
Thing: What? Cap's dead? AND A WOMAN RUNNING FOR PREZ? IT'S CLOBBERING TIME...
..after I finish my baguette. THEY RULE! May 9, 2008 1:31 AM LB! said...
Jessica Jones being a skrull would be a pretty surprising reveal since she's in the Bendis pet character camp even though she's otherwise a really likely skrull.
Also I like the concept that she's been a skrull since Alias started, it implies that one of the first things a Skrull did after posing as Jessica Jones was have buttsex with Luke Cage. May 9, 2008 3:05 AM Mr. Glaze, Doctor of Journalism, Esq. said...
It makes sense, get in close with a superhero in an attempt to switch. Maybe the Skrull DNA failed and Jessica couldn't maintain as "Jewel"? So she went "underground" of sorts, knowing she could still be of use. Infiltrate the bugle, be assigned to cover superheroes?
Then when the whole thing with Luke Cage and the Avengers blows up, she makes the total dick move and gets close to all the Avengers. What if Jessica, living in Avengers Tower, made all the Skrull switches?
We're pretty sure that the baby is a Skrull, right? I mean if not, that'd be just weird.
But is the Skrull baby an actual skrull in disguise?
Remember, when Lyja gave birth after getting it on with Human Torch, she expunged an egg.
Where that story went after that, I have no idea. But I'm of reason to believe that Skrulls don't just give birth.
So maybe the Skrull baby is a full grown Skrull, perhaps of some importance.
Jessica could have made the Jarvis switch easily, one day while the Avengers are gone, BOOM, Jessica calls a bunch of Skrulls in and SWAP!
As for getting with Luke Cage in the first place, the Skrulls couldn't have known that Luke Cage would go from D-List to A-list superhero.
Maybe the Skrull Jessica Jones just has jungle fever. May 9, 2008 10:28 AM

Okay I GUESS now that she killed Echo (and Bendis straight up said so: www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=16695) i'll accept that Spider-Woman is a Skrull. I still think Nick Fury knows, though. He's fucking Nick Fury. Also: Bendis kills the Vision again. That's just hilarious.

ALSO
Changing my mind. Norman's no skrull. He had a great character moment in the last Thunderbolts issue and talking down Skrull-Vell is a very Norman thing to do. He's legit and i'll go a step further and say the rest of the Thunderbolts probably are too except maybe one of the girls or Radioactive Man, and if its one of them then they're sleepers.

I didn't see that she KILLED Echo. Vision dying again-classic. Bendis must hate ol Vizh. Fury back is great, did you read the New/Mighty Avengers issues with him gathering the team? And Spider-Woman is the shit. She's just fucking with Tony though. Plus, Norman talking to Mar-Vell was a great subplot. I don't know about who might be a skrull, but I guarantee that at least one thunderbolt is a skrull. Venom is a good choice, considering that Eddie Brock will soon be Venom again, in the Anti-Venom storyline... Too many Venoms... All in all, it was a step-back of an issue. I've never been the guy who complained about Bendis' storytelling, but this issue is an example of people's complaints about his pacing. Still, the art is great. Yu rules. Too bad the cover art was so lame. I hate Dell'Otto, more or less. They offed some members of the Initiative, but who cares anyway. I hate the initiative. This is playing out more like Civil War did. Where all the major stuff happens in the regular titles, and the mini series is kind of like a supplemental reader and outline of all the events. I dunno, this is starting to drop the ball. Where is the revelation that will "CRACK THE INTERNET IN HALF" Final Crisis still has a few months to better itself. But things have shifted slightly in FC's favor for biggest series of the year. I'm enjoying the Avengers books more than SI. Sad.

I'm pretty sure she killed Echo. And honestly, why not? Here is a list of people who like Echo at all:
David Mack Bendis My friend Adam Me kinda
Thats the whole list. No one else cares about Echo.
Also fuck Eddie Brock, he should have stayed dead. Gargan is a more interesting Venom.
Man, ya'll are too impatient. SI is the best event since I started reading comics, easily. Bendis's pace is fine, if anything it feels like he's trying to fit too many storylines into each issue. As long as the book stays on time (Which it looks like it will) he's doing fine.
And I don't know how you can think FC has accomplished anything but I thought the first issue was really uninteresting and as far as I know nothing else has come out.

So I'm way into Secret Invasion, at this point. The introduction of the Secret Warriors, the badassery of Skrull Queen/Spider Woman, and how Hank Pym fucked a female skrull that may be a male skrull.
Does that make him gay?

I dunno man I think you've got to give some leeway on Shapeshifter fuckin'. Karolina in Runaways is still a lesbo even though Victor is definitely a guy skrull, right?
I am still totally into SI, even though Frontline was about as average as every other Frontline series so far.
I fucking love Nick Fury being back. Supposidly we're getting a Secret Warriors series after this is over and I hope Bendis is on it because he writes a fucking fantastic Nick Fury.

Bendis is a plotter, and Jonathan Hickman is the scripter...he wrote this really cool indie book a few years back, Holey Crullers, about a donut shop where heroes and villains could meet on common ground without like fighting or whatever.

I just finished #5 and it was fucking crazy awesome. I'm not gonna start spoiling it but I don't know how anyone could read that and say not enough happens in Bendis' shit. There's so much going on there that I finished it once and then immediately read it again and noticed twice as much shit going on in the backgrounds of panels and stuff.
Really goddamn fantastic issue.
