Life is the bitch, and death is her sister Sleep is the cousin, what a fuckin family picture You know father time, we all know mother nature It's all in the family, but I am of no relation -Weezy F. Baby
All men die, and all things, too. Man’s killers are legion. Drink, food, tobacco, drugs, even himself. But time is the most prolific. Of all the murderers, time is cursed the most.
Why?
Its force is unrelenting. When Caligula said, “For what antidote is there to Caesar,” he erred. Even the God-King is dust. What he should have said is, “For what antidote is there to time?” Maybe the greatest cruelty-man can guard himself with all protections, yet he is always possessed of the knowledge of his own doom. He does not own that knowledge, that knowledge owns him.
Perhaps even crueler-time’s force is subtle. Its symptoms are not measured by the second, but by years and decades. Almost so a man could forget…
But not quite. Now, that is cruelest.
Like all men, Calvin Constantine has this knowledge and cannot escape it.
Like all men, Calvin fears death.
A few men lead lives that confound that knowledge. They recognize its reality and operate accordingly.
Calvin Constantine wants to be one of those men.
In the past, he was an object, not a subject. Others acted on him and he reacted.
To achieve his goals, this will have to change.
More to come.
