Yo.
The final issue of Joss Whedon's X-Men came out this week, the Giant Sized one, and it was fucking great, probably the best comic Whedon has ever written. Which is good, since it had to be fantastic since this shit takes forever to come out.
The main thing I got from this issue though was that Whedon should write a Spiderman book. He writes a great Spiderman.
The next Asthonishing writer is apparently going to be Warren Ellis, who is generally pretty great and will probably do an awesome job, shame he's leaving Thunderbolts though, since that book was finally getting really good. But Gage is taking over there and he is great and its about time someone gave him a monthly.

I said the same thing to my wife about Whedon/Spidey. See, she's a big big Buffy fan. So anything whedon she's into.
I agree, Astonishing Giant Size was excellent.
I don't expect astonishing to be GREAT with Ellis, I do LOVE Ellis, but I dunno...
I hate Simone Bianchi's art, and the new costume designs courtesy of him and Greg Land are terrible, TERRIBLE.
I won't read Thunderbolts after Ellis and Deodato leave.
I will follow Deodato to Wolverine Origins, and start picking that book up again.
You see the Deodato Wolverine art from Wizard World? AWESOME!

Man, did you read the Thunderbolts one shot Gage did? It was fantastic. He's going to nail this book, you should at least give him a shot.
What little i've seen of Bianchi's art looks pretty good to me. He's not Cassaday, of course, but maybe he can get the book out on time, too.
Greg Land is a terrible hack though, and if he's actually doing anything on the book i'll end up dropping it.
I haven't seen the Deodato Wolverine art, but Deodato is amazing so i'm sure its great. Who's going to be writing, still uh. That one guy I don't like who's name I forgot right now?

Still Daniel Way, but he promises some better story, I guess.

Man I bought the first issue of that Arc he did with Deadpool and it was bad enough that I didn't buy any past that and I read all of the Christopher Priest Deadpool run. I'm not giving Way any chances.

The new Deadpool series is interesting because of the Secret Invasion tie-in.
But I will return to Wolvie ORigins with issue 26. Story looks like it's really going somewhere again.
I love Steve Dillon, but it seems that the stories were suited for his art style. Not a lot of action, slow, and very violent/gory.
It's time for more story now.
Plus Wolvie Origins is crossing over with X-Men Legacy. Should be decent.
Terry Dodson on Uncanny is exciting, I like his art a lot.
Greg Land is terrible. Even without his swiping, I don't care for his art. His stuff for Crossgen was good, Sojourn.
But Land just simply sucks. He's not suited for such a high profile book.
I hope that when Leinil Yu is done with Secret Invasion and whatever else they've fast tracked him for, he returns to the bread and butter, Uncanny X-Men.
If not him, then bring back Chris Bachalo.
Or Billy Tan, I mean come on. The Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar was a GREAT storyline. Brubaker writes good X-Men.
The San Francisco shit is dumb, although I like them MOVING there. But that hippie storyline right now is a little goofy, but there's still that classic X-Men Claremont style shit going on in the background. Uncanny is a well-written book.
Astonishing V2 with Ellis will start from the new X-Men Army status quo that starts with Uncanny #500.
I suggest picking it up, because it will show the new future for the X-Men, and Marvel promises that it's going in a good direction. Plus, there's a sweet Alex Ross cover. So I'll just have to sit through Land's horrible art.
Sigh. Just give me Claremont and Byrne/Silvestri/Romita Jr/Lee/Smith/Cockrum/Davis ANY day. PLEASE.
John Cassaday should be the artist on Uncanny. THere, I said it. The book was only late because of Whedon's slow writing.
Well, except for the part that GIANT SIZE was GIANT SIZE, and that Cassaday did that Cap special.
Still. That guy draws great X-Men.

I really don't like Steve Dillon. He's an okay artist but he can only draw like 3 faces and that doesn't work when you're doing superheroes. Everyone looks like a Preacher character cosplaying.
I actually like the wierd hippy plotline but I like when shit gets all wierd and confusing sometimes.
Uncanny and Asthonishing are the only X-books i've been reading normally. I read Uncanny because its Brubaker, i'll read anything Brubaker writes.
Also Cassaday is slow as hell and he can't be on a monthly if you want it to come out consistantly. He wasn't the only reason Asthonishing was slow but he was definitely part of it, same for Planetary and everything else he does art for. I love his stuff but he's better kept to minor continuity stuff or minis or something.
